CELEBRATING SAUV BLANC DAY SF STYLE
Springtime and Sauvignon Blanc – what could be better? Today is Sauvignon Blanc day and to celebrate, New Zealand Wine Growers hosted a tasting of delicious wines and shellfish at Farallon Restaurant in downtown San Francisco.
Rock star sommelier Peter Palmer led us through a tasting of fourteen delicious Sauvignon Blancs, 13 of the lot from Marlborough on the South Island and one from Hawke’s Bay on the North Island. While we tasted, Farallon’s Chef Paula shucked oysters and clams, prepared prawns, Dungeness crab, a swordfish mescal ceviche and bitter greens salad with chevre and dates.
Writers and sommeliers including Tonya Pitts of One Market Restaurant, Fred Swan of Planet Grape Wine Review and San Francisco Wine School, Rob Renteria of La Folie and celebrity sommelier Chris Sawyer shared stories of wine, food, and art while dodging around dicier topics of politics, the scooters flooding the streets and sidewalks of San Francisco and Uber drivers behaving badly.
